South Australia outlines its demands for Santos’ $36b sale to proceed

The South Australian government says it will demand Santos’ Abu Dhabi suitor commit to keeping the company’s headquarters in Adelaide and sign off on big investments in projects in the state in return for supporting the proposed $36 billion takeover of the ASX-listed oil and gas giant.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s interest in Santos was first revealed by The Australian Financial Review’s Street Talk column last weekend. Since then, unions and governments have flagged their concern with the sale of critical energy infrastructure to a heavyweight state-owned investor.
