Plan needed for exit of thousands of coal workers: unions
Energy companies and governments need to coordinate the transition of workers who are set to lose their jobs from the closure of coal-fired power stations over the next 15 years, unions say.
Local communities in the Hunter Valley were blindsided by Origin’s announcement that it would close its Eraring coal-fired power station by 2025, and the Mining and Energy Union said 500 workers now had an uncertain future.
