Countries will need to make “deep, rapid and sustained” greenhouse gas emission reductions this decade to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, according to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
While the international community, including Australia, has committed to stronger action on climate change – including limiting temperatures rises to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels – the IPCC’s report warned emissions will need to be cut by almost half by 2030 to achieve that goal.
