Gas industry hawks its carbon credentials

Barrow Island and its inhabitants of kangaroos, perentie lizards and rare native fauna is also home to the world’s largest dedicated carbon capture and storage project.

At 5am in the National Jet Express terminal in Perth, there’s scarcely a spare seat among the crowd of FIFO workers flying out to various West Australian mining and gas projects.

Those kitted out in high-vis attire include some of Chevron’s workforce for the massive Gorgon LNG project based on Barrow Island, which requires special quarantine clearances.
