Flooding hits Yallourn coal power as Callide unit returns

EnergyAustralia has cut output at its Yallourn coal power station in Victoria because of flooding, further disrupting generation on the National Electricity Market beyond the impact of the explosion and fire at the Callide generator in Queensland.

Heavy rainfall in the Gippsland region caused cracking in the wall of the diversion of a river by the generator, with additional cracking found on Tuesday, EnergyAustralia energy executive Liz Westcott advised, describing the situation as “dynamic”.
