Emboldened LNG giants push for more supply as North West Shelf looms

Governments should admit transition away from fossil fuels is taking longer than expected and unlock more supply if they want to keep prices from spiking and wean Asia off coal-fired generation, the CEOs of the country’s two largest gas companies have said.

The comments from the very top of Woodside Energy and Santos come as the Albanese government prepares to approve a five-decade extension of the controversial North West Shelf off the coast of Western Australia, a project that is an anathema to environmental activists given its carbon profile.
