CEOs back capacity market, but divided on coal

A capacity mechanism to ensure sufficient dispatchable energy supplies would ease Australia’s energy crisis, industry CEOs say, but they are divided on whether coal generation should be included.

A capacity mechanism, which would reward power producers for having capacity available to generate power, not just for the power they produce, will be discussed on Wednesday when federal Energy Minister Chris Bowen meets his state counterparts.
