Big power bill rises coming even as wholesale energy prices ease

Wholesale electricity and gas prices continued to fall in the first quarter of this year, partly due to record large-scale solar generation, according to the latest update from the Australian Energy Regulator.

While the Albanese government has attributed lower prices in 2023 to its gas and coal caps, an increase in coal generation since late last year has also contributed to an easing of prices.
