Mining unions in West Australia’s Pilbara have demanded BHP pay every one of its iron ore worker in the region a $10,000 annual bonus as part of a push to re-unionise the country’s biggest export industry.
The bonus is part of a log of claims presented to BHP on Wednesday, which based on the company’s 14,000-strong iron ore workforce, could cost it $140 million a year.
