States shut their borders to NSW bees in race to defeat varroa spread

Queensland, Victoria and South Australia have all banned NSW bees, which are now in lockdown following the detection of varroa mite in Newcastle.

Varroa mite is an exotic parasite of European honey bees and their brood. It weakens and kills honey bee colonies and can also transmit honey bee viruses.
