Key Points

  • Joe Lewis is alleged to have misappropriated inside information according to the New York southern district attorney.
  • The 86-year-old billionaire denies the charges, his lawyer said.
  • Mr Lewis’ Tavistock is the largest shareholder in AACo, Australia’s no.1 beef producer.

Billionaire Joe Lewis’ private plane pilot sounded deflated about not being able to sell his shares in Australian beef giant AACo quick enough.

“Just wish the Boss would have given us a little earlier heads up,” the pilot wrote in an email to his stockbroker, who had apologised for a delay in the sale.

clarification

An earlier version of this story said Mr Lewis owned Tottenham Hotspur. The club says he owned the club until last year, when legal changes meant he ceased being a person with significant control, and now a trust, of which members of his family are potential beneficiaries, owns 70 per cent of the club.
