Why the budget is likely to disappoint business

Business continues to push for a 20 per cent investment allowance to boost capital investment, but this is likely to struggle to gain traction with Treasurer Josh Frydenberg as he works on his third federal budget.

When Treasurer Josh Frydenberg delivers the federal budget on May 11, he will be handing the baton to business to carry the load of the post-COVID-19 recovery.

The Treasurer knows that Australian business has about $240 billion sitting on its collective balance sheet and he will be encouraging boards and chief executives to spend it.
