Why one more rate rise would be extra painful
Central banks don’t go from rate hikes to cuts quickly, so another rate rise on the back of May’s sticky inflation figure, will only help delay the change in direction.
Central banks have a giant turning circle.
When they’re cutting, they’re cutting, and it’s hard to turn back the other way. When they’re hiking, they’re hiking, and forget about cuts for a while. The market likes it that way; central bank stability is a good thing.
