Why Liontown says Australian lithium is now even more valuable

Liontown Resources CEO Tony Ottaviano says Australia’s status as a preferred lithium supplier is another reason US giant Albemarle should pay up for the group. 

If US lithium giant Albemarle thought it was getting close to nailing a $5.5 billion takeover of local junior Liontown, then it would have been disappointed by the appearance of Tony Ottaviano at The Australian Financial Review Mining Summit in Perth on Wednesday.

The Liontown chief executive says Albemarle is “ballparks away” from an offer that would get the board excited. This is a company that believes it is at the very start of a multi-generational expansion that will be driven by a decades-long program of global electrification.
