Westpac's board is tone deaf

Westpac is not just going backwards in terms of women in its executive leadership team, it now has the lowest percentage of women on its board of any bank in Australia.

Westpac Banking Corp achieved a unique milestone this week when it appointed Mike Hawker as a director to replace Alison Deans – it now has more men named Peter on its board than female directors.

This is not a criticism of chief executive Peter King or fellow "Peter" directors Peter Marriott and Peter Nash, who undoubtedly make valuable contributions to board deliberations.
