Start-up founders take us back to basics. It’s refreshing

It’s refreshing to hear from founders and their investors who aren’t tied up in corporate spin. Their stories are about survival.

Mention venture capital or backing a start-up to a big listed equities fund manager – a Fin Review rock star – and their eyes will roll. There is just something about the “ecosystem” that is hard to cop.

But having heard from a bunch of founders and their VC backers at the Australian Financial Review Entrepreneur Summit on Tuesday, we reckon fund managers would find them refreshing. They keep it pretty pure; it’s all just about making money.
