Why McFarlane will look outside Westpac for new CEO

John McFarlane's focus will be picking a new CEO for Westpac, for it is only when both a new chairman and a new chief executive are in place that Westpac’s cultural reset can get properly underway.

There can be no doubt as to the top priority of Westpac’s new chairman-elect, John McFarlane: Find the bank’s new chief executive as quickly as possible.

And history says McFarlane is likely to look outside the bank to deliver what outgoing chairman Linsday Maxsted describes as “needed change” at the bank.
