Miners running up to Queensland is a good example how business is playing Australian politics. Premiers are in demand.

It may be Donald Trump first and daylight second for election coverage, but big coal miners and their investors haven’t forgotten about Queensland’s changing of the guard.

Swiss giant Glencore’s CEO Gary Nagle and chief financial officer Steven Kamlin – bigwigs in mining globally – travelled to Brisbane to meet the new brigade last week, while Glencore’s rivals have requested the same half-hour meeting to eyeball the new crew.
