David Di Pilla is one of the most hard-nosed bankers in the country. But a little hint of wonder creeps into his voice as he reels off statistics about the artificial intelligence boom ahead of the float of data centre operator DigiCo Infrastructure REIT, which is being spun out of Di Pilla’s HMC Capital.
A ChatGPT query requires 10 times the power needed for a Google search, he explains, citing data from Blackstone, the private capital giant that scooped up AirTrunk for $24 billion in September. Generating an AI image needs 50 times the power for a Google search. Creating an AI video needs 10,000 times the power of a Google search.
