Taking the opening State of Origin game to the Melbourne Cricket Ground on June 6 shows rugby league is committed to developing the code beyond its traditional bases of NSW and Queensland, said the Australian Rugby League Commission chairman, Peter Beattie.

The former Queensland Premier said, soon after taking the role at the ARLC, that the code had to grow or it could ultimately falter.
