Two people ran screaming and on fire out of a burning house at Brahma Lodge on Monday morning, says their neighbour who to rush to help extinguish the blaze.
Mato Jelic, 55, said he was sitting inside his Jersey Avenue home when his eight-year-old German Shepherd dog, Buddy, began furiously barking.
Mr Jelic, a chess teacher, walked outside his house to see his neighbour’s front door and lawn on fire, and the home’s two occupants screaming in the street. He said the woman was badly burnt and half-dressed.
Neighbours hosed down the couple, and one put the woman in a shower while they waited for ambulance officers to arrive.
“I saw the fire and connected a hose and ran towards the house, then extinguished a fire on the front door before the firefighters came,” Mr Jelic said.
Police described the fire, that happened at 10am on Monday, as suspicious.
Mr Jelic described how he saw belongings such as clothes and toiletries scattered on the lawn.
“I didn’t see the burns because there was smoke everywhere, but the lady … was burnt,” Mr Jelic added. “It was incredibly scary, but I was happy to help.”
The two occupants of the home, a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, suffered serious burns, and were taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Police are investigating the fire. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meanwhile crews have battled a unit fire at Glenside.

The unit was substantially damaged, but no one was reported injured.
It follows an incident at Woodville West last week, where three people were allegedly doused with a flammable liquid and set alight.

The man who allegedly set fire to the people was arrested in country New South Wales on Wednesday night, after fleeing the state.
