Two men have faced court after heavily armed specialist police raided a mother’s home, allegedly seizing drugs, cash and weapons.

On Friday, Dario Palmieri and Sam Ryan Cooney appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court before Magistrate Joanna Martin after STAR Group officers attended Mr Palmieri’s mother’s home on Thursday where he had been staying.

STAR Group officers and detectives raided the Tea Tree Gully home on North East Road about 1.20 on Thursday afternoon.

Both men are charged with trafficking in a controlled drug, money laundering and use or have possession of a prohibited weapon over items seized from the property.

Police prosecutors allege Mr Cooney, a 34-year-old Surrey Downs landscaper, was located in the backyard of the property and Mr Palmieri, a 37-year-old stone mason from Tea Tree Gully, was arrested in the front yard.

Inside the house, 35 grams of methamphetamine was allegedly located on a kitchen table and $9750 dollars cash inside the microwave.

About 350ml of the drug GBH was allegedly located in the motor vehicle belonging to Mr Cooney, and weapons including two imitation handguns and a knuckle duster found in the living room.

Counsel for Mr Palmieri applied for him to be bailed to the same house, with the defendant’s mother “happy” to have him, however Ms Martin refused.

A second address was offered, belonging to the mother of his two children, and a bail inquiry report was ordered to return to court next week.

Counsel for Mr Cooney said the charges against his client were “strongly contested” and Mr Cooney’s mother was offering herself as a guarantor for his bail.

Ms Martin also refused Mr Cooney bail and said his history of “dishonesty” and “violence” left her “concerned” regarding the “exceptionally serious” offending before the court.

Mr Cooney was remanded in custody and will return to court in June.
