A man who allegedly set fire to three people – killing one of them – was today extradited to Adelaide after fleeing the state. Alessandro Cavuoto, 32, of Woodville West, has been under police guard in New South Wales since last Wednesday, the day he allegedly doused three people with a flammable liquid and set fire to them at Woodville West.
South Australia Police earlier in the week said they were liaising with their NSW counterparts to extradite the man back to South Australia but his injuries were too significant to move him.
He touched down at Adelaide Airport on Friday afternoon.
Cavuoto was refused bail to face murder charges at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
The victim, Todd Bradmore, 31, died from his injuries in hospital on Friday night, two days after the incident.
Mr Bradmore’s father, Ian, told Channel 7 he felt empty and lonely since his son died.
Ian lost his 18-year-old son Trent in a car accident in recent years, adding to the pain.
“They both died young, and... no parent should be burying any of their children, let alone two,” Mr Bradmore said.
Two women, aged 28 and 27, are recovering from non life threatening injuries sustained in the incident.
Police conducted a statewide manhunt for the 32-year-old suspect on the day of the incident.
Friends laid flowers at the scene, but declined to speak to reporters.
All parties are known to each other, and this incident is not random, police say.
The attack happened in the lounge room, and was quickly contained by fire crews.
Witnesses described hearing a woman screaming for help, knocking on doors along the street.
A man who lives nearby, who only wanted to be referred to as Mark, said a woman knocked on his door around 4am screaming in pain.
“We came outside because we heard someone knock on our door … I’m assuming it was the woman,” Mark said.
“I just saw one of the girls who lives there out on the street … she was pretty distressed.”
“She was just screaming in pain.”
