A southern suburbs man has faced court for the first time after police allegedly discovered gel blasters, a crossbow, a slingshot and child exploitation material during a property search.

The man, 36, appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon charged with multiple child sexual offences – as well as firearms offences, possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing body armour.

He is yet to enter any pleas after police also allegedly located various knives, machetes and a ballistic vest.

Detectives from the SA Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) arrested the man on Tuesday morning after receiving information and conducting a search of the man’s property.

During the raid, digital evidence experts from SAPOL conducted a forensic review of the man’s electronic devices and subsequently charged him with possession of child exploitation material offences.

He was refused police bail and fronted court on Wednesday.

A SAPOL spokesman said digital evidence specialists would continue analysing the electronic devices and further charges may result.

The man will return to court at a later date.
