A former Para Hills McDonald’s manager who filmed his victims in intimate moments has been sentenced to nearly a year in jail – but could be out in two months.

On Thursday, Jayden Guy, 26, appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court before Magistrate Edward Stratton-Smith after pleading guilty to six counts of indecently filming a person over 17, and one count of indecently filming a person under 17.

During sentencing, Guy’s victims and their families listened, including some who had previously expressed their “disappointment” he had lived a “relatively normal life” while they spent three years “waiting for justice”.

“It goes without saying, there are some things, obviously, that people should be allowed to do in private, showering and undressing are two of them,” Mr Stratton-Smith said.

“It is a basic right and expectation to not be secretly exploited by someone engaged in this sort of behaviour … the effects of this offending can be far reaching.

“You heard from each of your victims, each used similar word and phrases about feeling violated, shocked and disbelief, and the total breach of trust from their friend and colleague and how it has destroyed their trust in other people.”

Mr Stratton-Smith said Guy’s victims provided “moving and powerful” victim impact statements about their “embarrassment, shame and shock” after finding out about the recordings.

Guy, who lives in Salisbury Heights, previously pleaded guilty to filming former co-workers and friends – mainly women – at various location by hiding his phone, including inside the Para Hills McDonalds.

He also accessed his victim’s phones while at work and recorded “very personal and private” videos they “did not intend for other people to view”.

Mr Stratton-Smith said Guy had shown he was “genuinely remorseful” through his “productive” time on home detention, voluntary completion of 300 hours of community service, efforts made to seek counselling and a “lengthy” apology letter.

“In (the letter), you take full responsibility for your actions, you express remorse and appear to show insight into the damage your offending has done to your victims, I accept you are genuinely remorseful,” he said.

He continued that in psychological reports, Guy was not considered to be of “high risk of reoffending” and the care of his “loving and supportive family” bodes well for his rehabilitation.

Mr Stratton-Smith sentenced Guy to 11 months imprisonment for all charges, while Guy received a four-month credit for time served in custody and on home detention.

Guy was taken in to custody immediately to serve two months, with the remaining five suspended.
