A 17 year old boy is the latest to be arrested by police following a dramatic shootout on Main North Road between groups who were ‘at war with each other’.
The boy from Smithfield was charged with three counts of acts to endanger life, aggravated affray, possessing a firearm with a licence and discharging a firearm.
Last week, members of the public called police after hearing gunshots at a home in Elizabeth Vale on January 21 at around 5:30pm.
Stunned motorists then reported a shootout between the occupants of a silver BMW and a dark sedan on Main North Rd in Elizabeth Park with one of the cars’ rear windscreen shattered.
Four people were arrested the next day, with police seizing gel blasters and conventional firearms.
Donna Sell, 36, Christopher Ikin, 37, Andrew Goulding, 48 and Ronald Kirkbright, 39 faced the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday each charged with affray and a range of serious charges.
The court heard Ikin Sell, and Goulding arrived at Kirbright’s Wallace Rd, Elizabeth Vale property where he lived with another man.
The prosecutor told the court it appeared the two groups were in some form of dispute, with a fight at the address followed by a shootout and an armed pursuit on Main North Road where the groups allegedly shot at each other.
“These vehicles continued to shoot at each other while driving, that continues for some minutes before all of the parties proceed to where Mr Goulding and Sell live at an address in Smithfield,” the prosecutor said.
“It’s under investigation whether there was perhaps a further firearms incident at this address.”
On Friday, Ikin was denied bail after a home detention bail report was presented.
Magistrate Mark Semmens said no grant of bail is appropriate, despite Ikin denying being involved in the pursuit following the initial affray.
“His response to bail and risk to others in the community are matters which I can inform myself of,” Mr Semmens said.
“He is no stranger to the courts, he has prior convictions of aggravated robbery, robbery with violence, threats with firearms, assault occasioning bodily harm and aggravated serious criminal trespass, most concerning is 13 warrants and two parole board warrants issued against him.”
Mr Semmens said there was also two outstanding firearms police had not accounted for.
“Obviously, there’s some serious dispute between two groups, involving firearms, violence and a disregard for the safety of the community.”
“This defendant and others might hinder police inquiries, there’s also a risk of further violence in the community.”
“There are two groups of people at war with each other, engaging in violence and on the allegations exchanging shots on public roads from moving vehicles.”
Sell was denied bail and Goulding and Kirkbright will apply for bail pending a home detention report on Monday.
The 17 year old bail and is expected to appear in the Youth Court on Monday.
