Major Crime detectives investigating ‘deliberately lit’ house fire after man’s body found in Port Lincoln

Elite police detectives are on the scene in the Eyre Peninsula following a suspicious house fire which left one person dead and another hospitalised.

Major Crime detectives have travelled to Port Lincoln to conduct investigations into a suspicious house fire which left one person dead and another soon to be charged with murder.

The Advertiser has confirmed the detectives, who specialise in suspicious death investigations, travelled to the seaside location late on Thursday.

Police and emergency services were called to a house fire on Flinders Hwy just before 3.30pm.

The fire was extinguished, but police confirmed they believe it was deliberately lit.

SA Police also confirmed on Thursday evening that a man’s body had been located in the premises, and a 34-year-old local woman had been arrested.

She is expected to be charged with murder and will face court at a later date.

It is understood the pair are known to each other, with police reassuring the local community there are no safety concerns.

Earlier on Wednesday, police said fire investigators were attending the scene to determine the cause of the fire, with detectives from Port Lincoln CIB also in attendance.

An SA Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed a woman had been taken to hospital following the blaze.
