Three firearms incidents including shootout on Main North Rd land five people in custody, overnight car fire believed to be linked

A suspicious car fire is suspected to be linked to a string of shootings across Adelaide’s north at the weekend. Five people will face court today for their alleged involvement.

A suspicious car fire is believed to be linked to three firearms incidents in the northern suburbs in recent days, one of which included a shootout on a busy road.

Police and fire crews were alerted to the car on fire on Hayman Rd at Gawler River.

The fire was contained but the vehicle was destroyed.

Checks revealed the car was a blue Holden commodore which is believed to have been one of the outstanding vehicles involved in weekend firearms offences.

About 5.30pm on Friday, police were called to a house on Wallace Rd at Elizabeth Vale after nearby residents reported hearing a large altercation followed by gunshots.

Shortly after, there were further reports of an altercation between the occupants of a silver BMW and a dark sedan on Main North Road, Elizabeth Park.

Witnesses reported seeing shots fired from each vehicle as they chased each other along Main North Road.

A round of ammunition smashed the glass on the rear window of one of the vehicles.

At 1.45am Saturday, STAR group search a home in Hillbank and arrested a St Agnes man, 37.

He was charged with affray and was refused bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

About 15 minutes later, STAR Group search a home in Smithfield and allegedly found a gel-blaster firearm in the house.

A Smithfield man, 38, was arrested and charged with possess a firearm without a licence and affray. He will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

While at the address, police received reports that two more gunshots had been heard near the address around the time of the first two incidents.

Police believed the shots were fire shortly after the incident on Main North Road.

At 11am Saturday, detectives searched an Elizabeth Park home and seized a firearm believed to have been used in the offences.

A man from the address, 37, was arrested and has been charged with possess firearm without a licence, possess ammunition and fail to answer questions.

It is not alleged he was involved with the incidents.

He will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

At 4pm Saturday, police went to a home in Elizabeth Vale and arrested man, 39.

He was charged with affray and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court Monday.

At 9:30pm that evening, police re-attended a Smithfield home and arrested a Smithfield woman, 36.

She was charged with discharging a firearm, affray, possess a firearm without a licence and a breach of bail.

She will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police believe all incidents are linked and the parties involved are known to each other.
