Glenelg are the benchmark in the SANFL under-16 Torrens University Cup.
The Tigers have won the past four flags in the competition, their last being in 2019 as last year’s campaign was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
They will be aiming to clinch a fifth when they take on South Adelaide in the 2021 grand final at Noarlunga on Sunday.
The match will be live streamed on advertiser.com.au from 11am.
Glenelg skipper Ben Ridgway said his team was ready for the big clash.
The Tigers earned a berth in this year’s flag decider after a 37-point victory over Sturt in the semi-final last week, while South proved too strong for North Adelaide.
“We are feeling good and we are excited we can prove to everyone that the coaching and development through the juniors (at Glenelg) is very good,” Ridgway said.
“Last time we played Sturt we were a bit flat and we didn’t play our best footy.
“But last week we came out with the mentality of bring the heat early and we did.
“That was some of the best footy we’ve played all year.
“South is a really good team and they have been all year.
“But if we do what we have said we have to within closed doors and we put our plan into action I believe we should be really confident going in.”
The clash will be played on Anzac Day but players and coaches will be embracing traditions to help commemorate those who have served with our armed forces, despite outcries about the matches.
The Ode of Remembrance will be read out before the first bounce and a minute’s silence will also be observed.
Flags at the oval will be lowered at half-mast and the National Anthem will be played prior to kick off.
“It’s a huge honour for not only us but South Adelaide as well, to represent the people who have fought for us,” Ridgway said.
South Adelaide played in an under-16 grand final in 2015 but the Panthers are still chasing an elusive premiership in the competition.
Panthers skipper Tom Wheaton said his side was hungry to win an inaugural flag.
Wheaton was also excited the match was being live streamed to give those who could not make the game an opportunity to tune in.
“It’s going to be a good experience and it’s good to have a home ground advantage,” Wheaton said.
“A lot of hard work has been put into it (this season) so to top it off with a grand final would be unreal.
“We’ve got a good culture and we have good coaches and staff and people around us.
“Glenelg is a pretty talented side … we are a pretty good contested side, so we will try and beat them around the stoppages.”
