All the action from the 2021 Copyworld Toshiba SA Track and Field Championships will be broadcast on advertiser.com.au, starting this Friday at 6.30pm.

Two concurrent live streams will allow The Advertiser’s subscriber audience to switch between track and field events from the titles, with multiple camera angles capturing the state’s top athletes across the three days.

Commentator John Nankivell will host the coverage, made possible thanks to the support of event sponsors Copyworld and Sportitude.

Ahead of the championships, The Advertiser, with help from Athletics SA, has put together a list of athletes to watch throughout the weekend:

ADAM GODDARD

Saints Athletics Club

Goddard will be one to keep an eye on in the Open 1500m race.

AIDAN MURPHY

Saints Athletics Club

Murphy will compete in the under-20 men’s 200m sprint.

He will be looking to break the state under-18 200m record, having missed by .03 seconds earlier this month.

Murphy is no stranger to breaking records, having smashed an under-15 100m record that was previously held for 72 years at St Peters College’s Senior School Athletics Carnival in 2018 as a Year 10 student.

The 13-year-old broke the state under-14 SA record at the State Multi Event Championship last month, running 11.49 secs.

He will compete in the boys’ under-15 100m this weekend and will be hoping to continue his strong form.

Angus has been making a name for himself in under-16 Para T38 events where opposition athletes could wonder if they will ever win a race against him.

The 15-year-old, who has cerebral palsy which affects his left arm and both legs, will race in the Para 800m (T38) event.

He holds the under-20, under-18 and under-16 Para State Record and this weekend will look to break the under-18 Australian record of 2:10.54.

CAITLIN ADAMS

Hills Districts Athletics Club

Keep an eye on Adams in the open women’s 1500m race.

She is the defending champion in that event and is also a World Cross Country representative.

The 23-year-old long-distance runner finished eighth in a fast women’s 5000m National Championship in February 2020.

During 2019, she finished fifth in the 5000m race at the Australian Championships and competed for Australia at the World University Games in Italy.

She is the defending state champion and will be looking to retain her crown.

The 30-year-old’s win last year comes after claiming the bronze in the event at the 2019 state champs.

DANIEL KIRK

Port Adelaide Athletics Club

Kirk took up discus after badly injuring his ankle in 2012, which caused joint degeneration and put an end to his SANFL football career.

He will be hoping to throw a Paralympic qualifying mark during this weekend’s meet after missing selection for Australia’s Paralympic team that went to the Rio Games in 2016.

Kirk, a former footballer with Glenelg, made his international debut in discus in 2017 at the World Para-athletics Championships in London, England.

DARCY MILLER

Saints Athletics Club

Miller will take part in the under-18, under-20 and open discus events.

The 17-year-old is the current under-18 discus state record holder and will be looking for a huge performance to retain that title.

Miller, now a Year 12 at Mercedes College, was a monthly School Sports Award winner in 2018.

He also claimed the 2020 under-16 Male Athlete of the Year at the Athletics SA Awards, after breaking the boys’ discus record at the Years 7-12 Athletics Carnival, which had previously been made in 2004.

JACK DOWNEY

Western Athletics Club

Downey is a pole vaulter and will compete in the men’s open event.

The 19-year-old jumped a 25cm persona best of 5.40m recently and is hoping to maintain his form to earn a placing this weekend.

He is in Athletics SA’s Emerging Athlete Squad and is set to be one to watch at the state champs.

Jett is the state record holder in the under-16, under-18 and under-20 boys hammer throw.

His father, Paul, was an international hammer thrower and his uncle, Sean, won back-to-back Commonwealth gold in the same event.

The Year 12 Trinity College student was eyeing double success in the under-20 and open hammer throw, as he targets selection for April’s nationals.

KAREN LONG

SA Masters

Long will race in the women’s over-35 100m, 200 and 400m events.

At 46 years old, she is ranked No. 1 in the 100m and 200m and No. 2 in the world for the 400m women’s masters.

LACHLAN PAGE

Northern Districts Athletics Club

Keep a watchful eye on Page during the men’s Open discus event.

He is a Oceania Games representative and is looking to break a 40-year-old state open state record of 57.68m.

Highly promising sprinter Lakara Stallan won last year’s Kensington Gift, which The Advertiser also live streamed.

She will race in the women’s open 100m and 200m events this weekend and will be attempting to claim the sprint double.

The 17-year-old’s elder sister, Taylah Stallan, won the Brighton Gift in December.

LIAM MOSS

Pembroke Athletics Club

Moss claimed the 400m men’s sash at the 2020 Camden Classic and has put out solid performances since then.

At this weekend’s state champs, Moss will race in the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints.

The question on everyone’s lips will be ‘can he win them all?’

And those in the athletics circle reckon he’s a good chance to take home victories in at least two of those three races.

He is also eyeing a gold medal and retention of his records.

ROSE PITTMAN

Pembroke Athletics Club

She is the daughter of Crows premiership player David Pittman but has forged her own path in athletics.

Pittman is the defending champion in the open women’s 800m race and will be leaving no stone unturned in her quest to claim a back-to-back victory.

She was also included in Messenger’s top 20 emerging athletes to watch in 2018 after breaking the longstanding under-18 800m state record, before winning the under-16 400m and 800m at the All-Schools Nationals.
