Reeling from three consecutive defeats, South Adelaide coach Jarrad Wright has called on his team to capitalise on its chances as its top three hopes hang in the balance.

Seemingly assured of a double chance in the finals when they burst to a 7-2 start to the season in pursuit of their first men’s league premiership since 1964, the Panthers are in free fall, losing successive games to Norwood, Sturt and the Eagles and now sit third only by percentage.

Lose to an in-form Adelaide at Victor Harbor in Saturday’s annual SANFL regional match and they could slump to fifth.

The pivotal clash, which will be played in the coastal town in conjunction with the SA Country Football Championships, will be live streamed by The Advertiser from 2.30pm.

While South has been hurt by injuries, its biggest issue is goalkicking accuracy.

The Panthers are the second-worst side in front of the sticks, shooting at a poor 44.7 per cent.

They have kicked more goals than behinds in only five of their 12 games and in the past two weeks have posted a horrendous 11.23.

Significantly, most of South’s problems have come in the first quarter when it has dominated play but not made it count on the scoreboard.

“We have some work to do with some of our (inside 50) entry work and shots on goal,’’ Wright said.

“It’s been a recurring theme where we’ve had big starts but kicked 2.8, 1.6 or 3.5 and if you don’t capitalise on your 15 minutes of momentum the other teams will.

“Until we can take ownership of those moments to finish our work, with a basic fundamental skill or just a shot on goal the rest can come undone pretty quickly.

“We’re creating opportunities but not capitalising, so it’s something we are continually working on at training.’’

Third-placed South’s meeting with eighth-ranked Adelaide is one of three SANFL fixtures to be broadcast on advertiser.com.au this weekend.

The Central District v North Adelaide and Glenelg v Sturt under-18 encounters will also be live streamed from 11.30am.

South had just one less scoring shot than reigning premier Woodville-West Torrens last week, but lost by 36 points after kicking 6.9 to 13.3.

The Eagles are the league’s sharpshooters, with a 52.2 per cent accuracy rate. Norwood is the most inaccurate side at 42.3 per cent.

The Panthers are desperate to snap their losing streak in the heart of their country zone.

Their match against the Crows, who have won two of their past three games and pushed unbeaten Glenelg to the limit last week, will be staged at Victor Harbor Oval as part of the two-day country carnival.

All 18 men’s and women’s matches from the regional championships will be live streamed on advertiser.com.au from 9am on Saturday.

“We look forward to bringing SANFL footy to Victor Harbor and it will be a great opportunity for Panthers supporters within our country zone to see the boys in action right on their door step,’’ South chief executive Neill Sharpe said.

“The pathway through our country zone is critical, so it’s pleasing we can play a SANFL match in our backyard.”

Key forward Sam Overall will return to the ground where he started his junior career, while other Panthers who began in the Great Southern Football League include Hayden Sampson, Ben Heaslip, Jake Tarca and Liam Fitt.

Star midfielder Bryce Gibbs is a former Victor water boy after hid dad, Glenelg Hall of Famer Ross Gibbs, spent several years kicking goals for fun for the Kangaroos.
