The state’s top regional footballers will descend on the Fleurieu Peninsula towns for the showcase event on July 10 and 11.
And every men’s and women’s match from carnival will be exclusively live streamed by The Advertiser and The Messenger.
All 18 games will be broadcast on advertiser.com.au with the first matches getting underway at 9am Saturday.
The event, to be hosted by the Great Southern Football League for the first time, had been held every year since 1994, until the 2020 edition was cancelled due to COVID.
It brings together SA’s 23 regional leagues, as more than 200 players represent six zones – Central, Eastern, Eyre Peninsula, Murray South East, Northern and Southern Districts.
Flagstaff Hill gun Sam Tharaldsen will line up for Southern Districts, which is made up of the Great Southern, Southern and Kangaroo Island competitions.
The half-back flanker said it was a rare opportunity for the zone to claim men’s and women’s titles at a home carnival.
“After the year off, it’s good to have it back and to be able to play against the best country footballers in the state,” Tharaldsen, 28, said.
“We’re normally pretty strong and I think we’ll have a pretty strong team again.
“That home-ground advantage is certainly helpful for a lot of the guys in our team, so it will be even better if we can get it done at home.”
Southern Districts took home the women’s flag in 2019 – the second year females have competed at the championships – while the men’s tournament was won by Central.
Great Southern president Terry Corcoran said hosting the event was a huge boost for the league and the region.
“In the 27-odd years of the championships we’ve never hosted it, probably because we were never in a position to with our facilities,” Corcoran said.
“But now we have two great ovals to use.”
Victor Harbor will stage the women’s matches on the Saturday, before hosting a SANFL regional clash between South Adelaide and Adelaide at 2.30pm (also live streamed on advertiser.com.au).
It will be the venue for both men’s and women’s grand finals on the Sunday.
Encounter Bay will stage the men’s matches on the Saturday, as well as lower-place playoffs the next morning.
