Netball SA Premier League Round 11 live stream: Contax look to hit back against South Adelaide

Contax have pulled clear of South Adelaide at the top of the Netball SA Premier League ladder after a dominant 63-43 performance on Friday night.

Both teams entered the contest on nine wins each, but South Adelaide got their premiership credentials put under the microscope by their impressive rivals.

The Panthers exploded out of the blocks against Contax, and had stretched their lead to four goals by quarter-time.

But from that moment, it was all Contax.

An 18-6 second quarter was just the appetiser of what was going to come from the ladder leaders, blasting their rivals off the court in a blistering stretch of netball.

Contax were without star goaler Kayla Graham for the clash, opening the door for Jordi Vidmar to get a chance on the court.

The young attacker wasn’t going to waste it, standing tall in the shooting circle as the ladder leaders pulled clear by 20 goals at three-quarter time.

Vidmar finished with 32 goals from 36, while Sophie Agostino added 31 goals of her own.

The Contax defence was immense through the middle part of the game led by Jessie Grenvold and Kate Walsh, while skipper Chelsea Blackman turned her effort up a notch to shut down lethal South Adelaide scorer Jess Paradiso.

One of the Netball SA Premier League’s most improved sides of 2023 has the chance to go top of the ladder on Friday night.

That the match is against the current leaders makes the contest even more tasty.

South Adelaide, who finished fourth last season with eight wins, take on a fired up Contax side coming off a narrow loss to Matrics - and reigning MVP Jess Paradiso believes the Panthers have what it takes to get the result.

South Adelaide has won nine of their 10 games this season, their only defeat coming against, yes, you guessed it, Contax back in round four.

“It’s always a tough game against Contax, regardless if they won or lost the previous week. They’ve got some great defenders and are really strong on the goal end, too, so we need to be at our best across the court,” Paradiso said.

“We’ve put ourselves in a strong position so far this year and we know top two is up for grabs, that’s what we’re aiming for.

“A win on Friday would be brilliant, but we know it will be a tough game because both clubs are aiming for the same goal.”

The Panthers have been on a tear since their loss to Contax, winning six straight games, including a four-point thriller over Matrics in round eight.

Paradiso said the side had been improving each week, but still had another level to reach.

Contax defeated South Adelaide by 19 goals in their first meeting this year.

“We’ve been really happy with how we’ve been going and that win against Matrics, which was a really tough game, I think boosted our confidence and showed we can take it to the best.

“I think we have the skill and the belief and we’re beginning to reach our potential, but there’s definitely still room for improvement – we haven’t put out four really good quarters in a game yet.”

Paradiso said producing a consistent game would be key to her side’s success on Friday.

“The goal is to play well in all areas throughout pretty much the entire game,” she said.

“We’ve been working on a lot of things this week and if we can go out and put everything in place through four quarters, we’ll be a good chance.”
