After the success of the metro event last week, it’s now the turn of the state’s best country netballers to take centre stage as another big Sapsasa carnival gets set to be decided.

Among them will be young Crystal Brook defender Harriet Wilson, who believes her North Eastern team is up to performing against SA’s best regional players.

Wilson, 12, said the team, which is coached by Crystal Brook A Grade player Amanda Bowman, was looking strong in preparation for the carnival.

“We’ve had a number of training sessions so far and they have been really good,” Wilson said.

“A lot of us played last year as well, so we know each other and we’re all really excited for the carnival.”

Wilson has emerged as one of Crystal Brook’s standout young players in recent years, developing as a reliable defender through three seasons with the Roosters.

“Crystal Brook has been really good for me and a lot of fun – I’ve been having fun playing defence,” she said.

“I’ve got a really great team and great coaches, so I’ve definitely enjoyed it so far.”

With the carnival featuring the best young players from SA’s regional clubs and schools, Wilson knows winning will be challenging.

However, she said her team was as hungry as ever to get results.

“We want to win as many games as possible,” Wilson said.

“It would mean a lot to be able to train together, and then play, and do what we’ve practised to win games together, with everyone doing their job.

“It’s not just about winning though – we’re looking forward to having fun and meeting a lot of new friends and just playing against other good teams.”

The carnival begins on Monday and runs through to the end of Wednesday.
