Netball SA Premier League live stream: Contax and Matrics face off in Round 8 matches

Reigning Premier League champion Contax and rival Matrics have faced off in a top of the table clash – and all the action was live streamed here. See the replays.

Reigning premier Contax has sent a strong message to rival Matrics in a convincing Netball SA Premier League win on Friday night.

A strong team effort led the Blues to a comfortable 62-45 victory, which turned the tables on the round one result that went the way of the Stars.

Contax attackers Kayla Graham (46 goals) and Sophie Agostino (16) worked well in tandem but it was an all-round team display which drove the Blues over the line.

Defensive pressure in the opposition goal circle and strong play from the midcourt led by centre Imogen Abernethy drove the Blues to outscore Matrics in every quarter.

Lucy Austin returned with 38 goals for the Stars.

The result means Contax move one win clear on top of the ladder after eight rounds.

In the reserves match, Matrics got the best of the Blues, 52-45.

It hasn’t been all the same faces but reigning premier Contax is continuing to churn out the wins with a “new look” attack.

But the Blues’ biggest test will come this Friday night when they take to the court against rival Matrics in The Advertiser’s live streamed Netball SA Premier League match of the week.

It looms as a blockbuster encounter between last year’s grand finalists, with both teams locked on six wins at the top of the ladder.

Contax coach Leanne Eichler said her side was more focused on itself rather than getting one back over Matrics after going down to the Stars in round one.

“That first game gave us a real indicator of where we were,” Eichler said.

“Over the remainder of the first round of games we’ve worked really hard on some key areas that we wanted to focus on.

“Our last three matches we’ve been up against really strong opposition, so it’s been good to see the girls bring it against finals contenders.”

One of Contax’s key tests has been working through new combinations in attack, particularly with captain Chelsea Keough going down with a knee injury, which will sideline her until the second half of the year.

Sophie Agostino – recruited from Oakdale – young gun Kayla Graham and Eleanor Horsburgh have grown each week on the Blues’ six-match winning streak.

Last year’s grand final hero Sam Simons has also featured between basketball commitments.

“It really is a new look forward line for us,” Eichler said.

“We had a lot of changes at the start of the year we’ve also had a shift up with players not available through injury and that’s been a continual problem for us.

“We knew it would take time for it all to gel and we’re still working on it as well.”

Despite missing the experience of Keough as well as emerging Thunderbird Tayla Williams, the Blues have overcome challenges from top four aspirants Oakdale, South Adelaide and Tango in recent weeks.

Matrics meanwhile tuned up for the encounter last week by comfortably beating bottom side Garville.
