South Australia’s regions are stocked full of sporting talent and this June long weekend it will be on show at the Netball SA Country Championships.
The state’s largest netball competition – held in Adelaide from June 11 to 13 – will be exclusively broadcast on advertiser.com.au.
More than 100 regional teams will take part in the event, which will be broadcast exclusively to digital subscribers with 54 matches across two simultaneous live streams (see fixture lists below).
Heathfield Netball Club’s Claudia Lawson will represent the Hills at the Country Championships for the first time.
While somewhat daunted by the scale of the event, the versatile under-17 player said she was looking forward to facing off against the top regional talent from around SA.
“This is my first year as a part of the Hills rep program and I’m really excited,” Lawson, 16, said.
“The few carnivals I have been to have been really lively and exciting.
“I am a little bit nervous as it’s a bigger competition, there’s a lot more teams involved and I’m just excited to see how the days play out.”
The Country Championships are SA’s pinnacle event for regional netball talent, featuring senior, 17 and under, 15 and under, 13 and under, as well as 11 and under divisions.
It will be the second successive year the championships are live streamed by The Advertiser, following the first ever broadcast of the event in 2021.
Adelaide Plains wing defence Sarah Clark said there was something special about country netball.
“There’s just a great family and community aspect to it … it’s so warm and inviting,” Clark, 20, said.
Southern Hills goalkeeper Beth Loffler will also be making her Country Championships debut and admitted she had some nervous energy coming in.
“It’s a great opportunity to play against other people you don’t normally come up against,” said Loffler, who will feature in the under-17 division.
“There will be some difficult games but I’m looking forward to it.”
The Netball SA Country Championships live stream will begin at 9am on each day of competition over the June long weekend.
It follows The Advertiser’s season-long broadcast of the Netball SA Premier League.
News Sport Network general manager partnerships Sachin Kumar said the Netball SA Country Championships would add to an exciting weekend of content News Corp will live stream across the nation.
“These championships bring the most exciting netballers from across regional South Australia to battle for the chance to be crowned the best in the state,” Kumar said.
“There is a high likelihood News Corp subscribers will have the opportunity to see future Thunderbirds emerging on the court.
“This is our second year of partnering with Netball South Australia to live stream the country championships and we are excited to see the latest crop of exciting talent take to the courts.”
