The excitement for Football SA’s under-18 and reserves Federation Cup semi-finals was high and the matches did not disappoint.

From seven-goal drubbings to red cards and extra-time winners – there was plenty of action at the Parks on Tuesday and Wednesday nights and it was all live streamed by The Advertiser and The Messenger.

UNDER 18S

A stunning first-half hat-trick from Adam Harpas inspired Adelaide Comets to a 7-1 rout of Football SA NTC and a spot in the under-18 Federation Cup final.

Comets made the most of better conditions early to pile on goals in the opening half-hour before rain bucketed down at the Parks.

Coach Dimitri Panagis said the fast start inspired by Harpas booked his side a deserved spot in the final.

“Adam is a special player,” Panagis said.

“Physically, he’s at a reserves level but we’ve got a strong reserves side at the moment so he’s with us and playing really well.

“It was good to see us put NTC on the back foot straight away and put away our chances, which we haven’t always done.”

Comets got off to a dream start two minutes in when Harpas poked home a ball which fell fortuitously to him in the box.

The winger then made it two in the 17th minute when he got on the end of a quick counter attack and calmly slotted a half-volley into the bottom corner.

NTC showed signs of fight when Giorgio Parhas pegged one back less than a minute later after an error from Comets keeper Ethan Gifford, who failed to deal with the long-range effort.

But it was not to be for the Reds.

In a matter of minutes, Benedek Futty-Ferdinandy tapped in at the back post and Harpas completed his first-half hat-trick to make it 4-1 after half an hour.

Manolis Stamatelopoulos added a fifth just before the break then bagged two more in the second half to record his own hat-trick and a thumping Comets win.

They will face Adelaide City in the final.

The majority of this season’s under-18 squad was part of Comets’ successful under-16 cup side last year.

Panagis said it was pleasing to see the Parklands-based club’s junior development pay dividends.

“As a club, the majority consists of players who have come through our junior sides,” he said.

“We want to see them have success and push through to the senior team.”

Replay: SA Federation Cup soccer semi-finals (Under 18s) - Croydon Kings v Adelaide City

Adelaide City overcame a shaky start to book its spot in the grand final with a 2-1 won over Croydon Kings.

The Black and Whites are yet to lose this season in all competitions and will face Comets, who they defeated 3-1 in the league on Saturday.

On Tuesday night, Croydon pressed the City defence early and it paid off, with an errant backpass to the goalkeeper gifting Salia Kenneh the easiest of finishes in the 12th minute.

The Black and Whites needed to respond and they eventually restored parity just before the break.

Captain Laurence Galluccio controlled a ball over the top and flicked over the keeper at speed to make it 1-1.

The deadlock was broken 79 minutes in when Fabian Talladira netted the winner for City after a scramble in the box.

RESERVES

Replay: SA Federation Cup soccer semi-finals (Reserves) Adelaide United v Adelaide Olympic

There was an extra-time winner and two red cards shown as Adelaide Olympic got past Adelaide United Youth 1-0 in a thrilling finish on Wednesday night.

The focal point of normal time came four minutes into the second half when Olympic’s Mohammad Mohtashami was shown red for bringing down Young Red Musa Toure on the edge of the box as he was through on goal.

United could not take advantage of the extra man however, as scores remained locked at 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Extra time was needed and Olympic pounced.

Benson Nsegetse won the ball on the halfway line and played it through to Andre Repanich, whose slick turn put him one-on-one with the onrushing keeper.

A bobbling ball fell back into the path Nsegetse and he remained calm to volley home the winner.

The Young Reds pressed hard in the second half of extra time and came ever so close.

Keeper Steven Hall went up for a corner and almost scored, his volley just cleared off the line by an Olympic defender.

Panagiotis Kikianis was given his marching orders in the dying minutes for a second yellow card.

Replay: SA Federation Cup soccer semi-finals (Reserves) Raiders v Cumberland United

Olympic will now take on Cumberland United in the final.

The Foxes were in devastating touch, putting seven goals past a hapless Adelaide Croatia on Wednesday night.

Alex Redman opened the scoring after nine minutes before an own goal by Raiders’ Noah Blazeka shortly after put Cumberland in control of the fixture.

Shoma Nakagawa added the Foxes’ third in the 25th minute and Benjamin Visser, Connor O’Brien, Thomas Visser and Jay Gillon all netted in the second half to complete the 7-0 rout.
