Both matches will be live streamed here on advertiser.com.au.
SOUTH v NORTH UNDER-18s
It follows Friday night’s broadcast of the men’s nail-biter between Norwood and the Eagles from The Parade.
Woodville-West Torrens narrowly avoided back-to-back defeats to begin its premiership defence, edging Norwood by two points in a thriller.
Leading by less than a kick going into the last, the Eagles needed to muster a big effort against an admirable Redlegs and did with late goals to Zane Williams and Jake Comitogianni sealing the victory.
Norwood’s Ben Jarvis pegged one back in the dying minutes but the hosts could not find the winner and went down 12.11 (83) to 11.15 (81).

PREVIEW: REUNITED REDLEGS HOPE FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL
Ben Jarvis and Cam Taheny appear to be joined at the hip.
Both hail from the Eyre Peninsula, joined Norwood’s under-age squads, boarded at Rostrevor College, are forwards who were drafted by Geelong after starring at State under-18 level and are now back at The Parade where they hope to form one of the SANFL’s most dynamic attacking duos.
“There’s a fair bit of history there,’’ said Jarvis, who showcased his talent by bagging three goals against grand finalist Glenelg in round one.
“Our paths have crossed a fair bit over the years and now we’re hoping to do something special together with Norwood.
“We have good chemistry and feel that we complement each other’s games nicely in that we can both play as key, deep targets or move up the ground a bit.’’
The pair will be part of the Redlegs side set to take on Woodville-West Torrens at The Parade on Friday night, which will be live streamed here by The Advertiser.
The strong-marking, 190cm Jarvis, 21, played one AFL game in three years with the Cats – against Richmond in round 17, 2020 – after being selected at pick 48 at the 2018 national draft.
Fast-leading, 185cm Taheny, 20, failed to play an AFL game in two years with Geelong after being taken at No. 50 at the 2019 national draft.
Both were delisted at the end of last season after two Covid-riddled years contributed to stalling their AFL development.
The Cats’ blockbuster trade last year for former Greater Western Sydney full forward Jeremy Cameron – a Coleman Medallist – was another roadblock to the pair’s hopes of cementing a spot in the club’s star-studded forward line, which is headlined by four-times All-Australian Tom Hawkins.
Now the duo hopes to make SANFL defenders pay, setting their sights on helping a young, rebuilt Norwood team hit the scoreboard more after coach Jade Rawlings’ outfit averaged only 66 points a game in 2021 – ranked seventh.
“Me and Jarvo have spent a lot of time together and it’s good to be in the same 50-metre arc with him again,’’ Taheny said.
“We have a strong relationship and a fair bit of synergy together on the field, so we’re hoping we can form a strong combination and link with our other forwards – Tristan Binder, Connor McLean, Mac Bower, Xavier Tranfa and Baynen Lowe, who all offer something different and should enable us to get some mismatches – to cause opposition defences some problems.
“Hopefully we can turn some games on their head.’’
Jarvis hails from Port Lincoln and Taheny from Cleve.
The pair also has a close bond with another Redleg and Eyre Peninsula product, Jacob Kennerley, who has followed a similar football path.
The midfielder, from Cummins, was drafted by Geelong at pick 50 in 2018 and delisted at the end of 2020 without playing an AFL game, rejoining Norwood last year.
“The three of us have spent a lot of time together and are good mates,’’ said Taheny.
“We all think we’re better for our time at Geelong and are now focused on helping Norwood have some success.’’
The Redlegs, who started the season with a hard-fought, 15-point loss to the Tigers at the Bay, host reigning back-to-back premier Woodville-West Torrens in a blockbuster first home game at The Parade on Friday night.
The match will be live streamed by The Advertiser as part of our season-long deal to bring readers the best of the league every weekend.
On Saturday, South Adelaide will take on North Adelaide in the under-18s from 10.30am followed by the Eagles v Norwood in the under-16s from 1.30pm.
