North Cairns Tigers captain Rachel Campion says she couldn’t be prouder of her side’s positive mindset despite a winless start to the season.
The Tigers sit bottom of the Senior Division 1 ladder and were handed their biggest defeat of the season on Wednesday night — a 54-goal thrashing at the hands of the Phoenix Fierce.
But, while the season hasn’t been kind to the Tigers, the team isn’t letting that affect their camaraderie.
“I’m just happy that we keep turning up to training with a really good attitude and we’ve got a really good attitude on the court,” she said.
“That’s really important.
“You can get over it pretty quickly when you keep getting smashed every week, but I’m just really proud of the girls’ continued efforts at training and in games.”
She said the difficult season hadn’t affected the club’s positive outlook.
“We’ve had a bit of trouble retaining players over the years, so we’ve been working really hard on our club culture and trying to set up a foundation for the following years,” she said.

“If that means we have to slog it out for the rest of this year without a win, but we end up retaining all those players, then I’m more than happy.
“For us, it’s all about moving forward and setting the club up for the future.”
