Superstar Taylor Swift showed her wide appeal and knew All Too Well it’s not just teens who love her music after she made a surprise visit to a southern suburbs bowls club.

Swift surveyed the Blank Space of the bowling green and spurred on members of Colonel Light Gardens Bowling Club during their weekly pennant match against Holdfast Bay.

Club member Ken Hancock, 83, thought the experience meeting the star was “fantastic” and made for one of the more exciting days in his 30 years on the green.

“We received a message from our vice president saying ‘this is not a joke guys’,” Mr Hancock, a retired teacher, said.

He said his awareness of the singer came from his 16-year-old granddaughter Hannah “who is a massive fan”.

But, while Mr Hancock said he could not understand the reaction to the singer, it was Nothing New.

“I’ve never understood people screaming (when they see her), but she must be up there with people like The Beatles,” he said.

Another member of the club, Steve Ashley, was “very impressed” by Taylor taking time out of her busy schedule to visit the Colonel Light Gardens.

And compared to the 57-year-old nurse’s favourite bands The Angels and ACDC, “she’s more popular than what they would be”, Mr Ashley said.

“They’re a bit of a far cry from Taylor Swift,” he said.

Retired principal, Bob Craig, was shocked by her appearance on the green and said the Shake It Off singer was as big as some of the greats of old.

“Musically I believe she compares to them (The Beatles) but performance wise she’s every bit as good and better than looking at Paul McCartney,” Mr Craig, 67, said.

“All the kids I ever taught over the years danced to her music and sang all her songs and that’s why she’s so popular.”

Mr Craig was overjoyed by Tay Tay’s appearance and by the time she wanted to leave, he was asking her to Stay Stay Stay.

“It’s something that dreams are made of,” he said.

With Taylor by their side, the club members had The Best Day and won their game.

As the star headed off to her Australian concerts in Melbourne and Sydney, fans in SA were left thinking the visit really was Sweeter than Fiction.
