Poll on federal seat of Mayo reveals Sharkie would easily retain seat

A poll on the federal Hills seat of Mayo has turned up some interesting news for Centre Alliance MP Rebekha Sharkie – and the other contenders for the seat.

Centre Alliance MP Rebekha Sharkie would easily retain her federal Adelaide Hills-based seat of Mayo if a federal election were held now, polling shows.

A uComms phone poll, commissioned by The Australia Institute, found Ms Sharkie would win 30.9 per cent of the primary vote and the Liberal Party 30.8 per cent.

However, on a two-party-preferred basis, Ms Sharkie would comfortably win with 58.5 per cent, compared with the Liberals’ 41.5 per cent.

The poll of 828 Mayo constituents was conducted on the evening of December 13.

The results showed Labor would pick up 13.3 per cent of the primary vote, Greens 7.7 per cent and Pauline Hanson’s One Nation 6.5 per cent.

United Australia Party and independents would take 3.3 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively.

For the senate, 35.1 per cent of respondents said that they intended to vote Liberal, while 20.6 per cent backed Labor and 14.4 per cent supported the Greens.

The poll also found 84.7 per cent would “support” or “strongly support” the establishment of a commonwealth integrity ­commission.
