Man allegedly flees scene of motorcycle crash at Murray Bridge

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital following an alleged hit and run crash at Murray Bridge on Sunday night.

A man has been arrested after he allegedly crashed into a motorcyclist and fled the scene in Murray Bridge last night.

About 5pm on Sunday, a witness saw a car collide with a motorbike at the intersection of Adelaide Rd and Old Princes Hwy.

The driver failed to stop after the crash and drove away from the scene, police say.

The motorbike rider was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. However, The Advertiser understands the rider is “in a very bad way”.

“A car towing a boat pulled out in front of him and the rider tried to avoid a collision, hitting the light post,” a source said.

The witness followed the driver for a short time to Bridge St where he stopped the suspect and removed the keys from his car.

It’s alleged the offending driver fled again on foot.

Major Crash officers attended the scene and local patrols searched the area, locating the man around 9pm.

A 55-year-old local man submitted to a breath test and allegedly returned a reading of 0.232.

Further checks revealed the man was also disqualified from driving.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated cause harm by dangerous driving, leaving accident scene after causing harm, aggravated driving without due care, driving disqualified and due care.

The incident follows a fatal hit and run crash at Murray Bridge East last month.

Mother-of-five Chantelle Medlam, 40, was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Old Princes Hwy at 9.45pm on October 20, as she was walking home from the Avoca Dell Caravan Park.

Police say the vehicle failed to stop after the collision and the driver remains at large.
