THE victim of a fatal hit-run incident in Murray Bridge East has been remembered as a “beautiful woman” by her grieving daughter.

Mother-of-five Chantelle Medlam, 40, was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Old Princess Hwy at 9.45pm on Thursday, as she was walking home from the Avoca Dell Caravan Park. The driver remains at large.

One of Ms Medlam’s children, Chloe Louise, said she would “forever miss” her late mother.

“A beautiful woman died in a sad and horrific way. Someone chose to hit her and continue driving without any care for her, her children she left behind and her family/friends,” Chloe posted on social media.

“Chantelle was my mother, my siblings and I are now without her due to the lack of care in (sic) the person responsible.

“RIP mum I’ll forever miss and love you. You’ll always be right here with me, watching me succeed and fail. I truly love you, always thinking of you.”

It’s understood Ms Medlam was a frequent visitor to the caravan park and had been to see her boyfriend before the incident.

“He’s a murderer ’cause if he stopped he could have saved her life,” the boyfriend told 7News. “Give yourself up and face up to it.”

A witness reportedly saw Ms Medlam walking along the middle of Mitchell Ave about half an hour before the incident.

She then visited a petrol station just before she was fatally struck.

One woman at the caravan park had earlier told The Advertiser “we are all shocked” at the news.

“It hits you when it is someone you have seen around and said ‘hello’ to a few times,” the resident, who wished not to be named, said.

Other family and friends took to social media to mourn the loss of Ms Medlam.

“My aunty you will be loved and missed, I love you forever and always,” one post said.

“RIP my beautiful sister ... you’ll forever be in my heart,” another posted.

Police seized a vehicle from the caravan park after the incident but it was later confirmed not to have been involved in the crash, with investigations continuing into the location of the vehicle.

Police have appealed for anyone who might have dashcam footage to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Ms Medlam’s was the 58th life lost on South Australian roads this year, compared with 79 at the same time last year.
