A teenager allegedly tried to steal a police car to flee officers after a violent carjacking but was tasered and capsicum sprayed, a court has heard.

A court has heard the full allegations of a “vicious random attack” with “absolutely no cause” after an alleged attempted carjacking in Rostrevor, which put another teenager in hospital with serious head injuries.

Zein Hadad – who turned 18 a week ago – was arrested and charged over the alleged attack on Ainish Varandani, also, 18, on Wednesday night about 11.15.

Mr Hadad, of Rostrevor, faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with attempted commit theft using force, assaulting an emergency worker and drive, use or interfere with motor vehicle without owner consent.

Police said multiple residents had reported a violent disturbance at the corner of Lindsay St and Highland Ave.

It is alleged Mr Varandani, also of Rostrevor, was getting out of his car outside his home after finishing his shift in a nearby Woolworths.

Mr Hadad then allegedly punched Mr Varandani multiple times and demanded his car, however Mr Varandani managed to fight him off.

The court heard that half an hour later, Mr Hadad returned to Mr Varandan’s house on Lindsey St with a knife and began yelling, leading to police being called.

Prosecution alleged that when police attended Lindsey St, Mr Hadad advanced at an officer, who tasered him, but Mr Hadad continued to advance.

“He turned and ran in the direction of the police fleet and attempted to take the police fleet, at which point they’ve had deploy OC (capsicum) spray and taser him,” prosecution alleged.

Counsel for Mr Hadad told Magistrate Simon Smart his client had made partial admissions relating to the incident, but contested other elements.

Mr Hadad is yet to enter pleas.

From hospital, Mr Varandani said “my nose was bleeding, my lips bleeding, like all just blood.”

Mr Varandani managed to escape and call the police for assistance, before he was rushed to hospital for treatment.

His father, Jayaanth Varandani said doctors performed “some X-rays and CAT scans”.

“It’s really traumatic man, it’s really traumatic,” Mr Varandani said.

Ainish’s mother, Vishaka Varandani added: “My son, he’s fine now, but still in the hospital.”

Neighbour Daniela Admidina, 44, said she heard the incident outside her home, but didn’t feel safe enough to step outside.

“At 11.30pm last night we heard a commotion outside; the car was going off,” she said.

Another resident Michael – who asked to keep his surname private – said he had called the police.

He is worried about the impact of the incident on his children.

“My son’s bedroom is at the front of the house and when he heard the fight outside, he got scared,” Michael said.

“This is such a quiet and good neighbourhood, so it’s frightening that something like this could happen … it makes me fear for my own children’s safety.”

The car was towed from the scene for forensic examination.

Mr Smart ordered a home detention bail report and remanded Mr Hadad in custody until next week.
