DARWIN Council will tonight finalise details of its festive season myDarwin pool of vouchers, with $400,000 to be distributed to the public over at least two rounds in December, and in January.
Councillors are set to discuss how the money will be distributed between a number of different pools at council’s confidential sitting.

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said it would be a welcome present for Christmas shoppers and businesses.
“While this means there will be no free parking in the CBD over Christmas and New Year, I believe the relaunch of the vouchers will be incredibly positive for local businesses, customers and the economy,” he said.
“Previous rounds of the myDarwin vouchers saw a significant increase in customer spending – customers were not only buying a morning coffee they were ordering toasted sandwiches to go with it.”
Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said it was a great boost for the local economy in the lead up to Christmas.
“MyDarwin helped keep consumer and business confidence high when we needed it most,” he said.
“This is a good call and means locals can enjoy Christmas early this year.”

The myDarwin initiative has had five separate rounds of funding since June, totalling
$650,000, and with the multiplier effect this has equated to more than $3.8 million being spent
in the local economy.
