Crime Gangs Taskforce raid houses, prison cells after a shot was fired at West Lakes home

An ex-Mongols bikie was at a house targeted by a gunman in a shooting on Friday morning — the latest in an escalating series of gangland incidents that has triggered police raids on 28 properties across the state.

Bikie crackdown

Detectives and police have raided almost 30 properties across the state as they hit back against an escalating gang feud.

The most recent act involved a former Mongols bikie — who was shot in the leg in 2017 — who was at a West Lakes house when it was targeted by a gunman in a brazen attack.

He has now been charged with breaching home detention bail after being taken from the house and questioned by detectives.

The home on Classic Court became a crime scene when a shot was fired into the brick wall at the front of the property about 7.30am on Friday.

Pero Mileusnic, who was shot in the leg at his St Clair home by Hells Angels associates two years ago, was then arrested.

He was a senior member of the Mongols before the gang folded last year.

Crime Gangs Taskforce officers swooped on the property to investigate if the shooting was linked to an ongoing bikie feud over a drug debt involving the Hells Angels and other Adelaide organised crime figures.

The escalating violence, which has involved arson attacks and shootings, prompted wide-scale action by police who raided 28 properties, including prison cells, on Friday.

Chief Superintendent Tom Osborn said the police were sending “a clear message for members of the OMCGs who have been involved in events in Adelaide over the last two weeks — this will not be tolerated”.

“These are not random incidents, but each poses an unacceptable risk to the wider, law-abiding community,” he said.

“While police have made significant inroads into disrupting the criminal activities of these organised crime groups over recent years, we know that they continue to be prominent in the illicit drug trade.”

Following the raids, one person is expected to face firearm prohibition charges while four drug diversions and 11 cannabis diversions were handed down.

Two people have been reported in relation to steroids and another person is expected to be reported for running a hydroponic cannabis lab.

CCTV cameras captured a silver SUV vehicle drive up to the Classic Court home — which is part-owned by Adelaide United player Nikola Mileusnic — before the shooting on Friday morning, then speeding away after the shot was fired.

Once Classic Court was reopened, SA Government technicians seized a large landline telephone from the property.

The Advertiser understands police visited the property in recent days and that Pero Mileusnic, who rides a motorbike, was pulled over by police on Wednesday.

It’s understood his bike was checked over before he was allowed to ride away.

There have been a string of violent bikie-linked incidents in the past two weeks.

On Wednesday, August 14, police and fire crews were sent to a block of businesses at Seaton after an early-morning arson attack caused about $20,000 worth of damage to a hairdressing salon.

On Monday evening, five shots were fired at a house in Ascot Park.

On August 9, a boxing gym in Marker Ave at Marleston was set alight and five shots were fired at the premises in an early-morning attack.

Less than 24 hours earlier, a food van at a Mile End house was destroyed by a deliberately-lit fire.

The bikie feud began after five current or former Hells Angels members were arrested last week over the 2012 murder of Jason De Ieso at his Pooraka business.

Anyone with information about this incident or anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or online.
