A BULLET blasted through a neighbouring wall during a shooting on Sunday morning in Adelaide’s west that left one man injured.

Two men entered the St Claire property at 7.30am on Sunday, brandishing a handgun.

Three shots were fired during the ensuing chaos with one shot grazing a 24-year-old man’s calf.

Another round penetrated the wall of the unit, smashing into the upstairs room of the unit next door.

Police and paramedics were called to the home on St Clair just after 8am, responding to two witnesses who heard the gunshot.

The two men fled, leaving the wounded man to seek medical attention.

Criminal Investigation Branch detectives attended the unit alongside dog units and crime scene investigators.

Police were scathing of the reckless shooting, with gangland ties the subject of ongoing investigation.

“Shortly after 7.30 this morning two men attended this address in St Claire,” Superintendent of Western Adelaide LSA Howard Davies said.

“They knocked on the door and gained entry.

“What took place in there we don’t know, but as a result of that one man was shot in the leg.

“Anyone who discharges a shot in the metropolitan area, it is not only foolish and dangerous but stupid. The shot could have ricocheted, it could have hit a passer-by.”

The victim was treated at the scene for the wound but provided limited assistance to investigating officers.

“We’ve found it difficult to get a true story from the person who was shot but he is now co-operating with police and assisting with inquiries,” Superintendent Davies said.

“(The two men) came here for a specific purpose, I do not intend to say what that purpose was.”

Police do not believe the incident was random and confirmed the victim was known to them.

Neighbours said they did not hear the gunshot but were concerned about the violence so close to home.

The property faces sports fields, where sports were underway when police cars and ambulances began to arrive.

If anyone witnessed this incident or has any information that may assist police, they are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
