Group charged over the 2012 murder of Pooraka panel beater Jason De Ieso appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court

Seven people charged over the murder of Pooraka panel beater Jason De Ieso — an innocent bystander shot dead in 2012 because of a bikie feud — have faced court for the first time.

Seven people accused over the 2012 shooting murder of panel beater Jason De Ieso in his Pooraka workshop have appeared in court as police urge three more suspects to come forward.

Five men aged between 26 and 34 — each of whom has been charged with murder — appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link on Monday, almost seven years after the 33-year-old was shot dead.

Two people charged with assisting an offender — a man, 31, of Salisbury Downs, and a woman, 26, of Reynella — also faced a magistrate.

Police will allege the men charged with murder are all current or former members of the Hells Angels, and Mr De Ieso’s shooting was the culmination of an escalating feud with the Finks.

A number of detectives along with supporters of the accused were present in the packed public gallery. Mr De Ieso’s father and brother were also in court alongside a victim support officer. The matter was moved into a larger courtroom to accommodate everyone and extra security was present.

Prosecutor Jim Pearce sought suppression orders on the name and image of each of the alleged offenders to “prevent prejudice to the proper administration of justice” to enable “further inquiries to be made” by police.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” he said.

The suppression order will be reviewed next month, while the alleged offenders are next expected to return to court in December.

None of the accused applied for bail.

Police have previously said Mr De Ieso, 33, was an innocent bystander caught up in a dispute between rival bikie gangs.

He was not a bikie, but was friends with a man connected to the Finks.

Further arrests are expected.

Jason De Ieso’s family appeal for information over his murder

In an emotional video released on Sunday, Mr De Ieso’s parents, Giovanna and Sam De Ieso, described their son as a keen athlete in his younger years who loved fishing.

“It’s always with us, it never goes away and I don’t know why we have to go through this,” Mrs De Ieso said.

They pleaded for the remaining suspects to come forward.

Outside court, Detective Inspector Billy Thompson said police were “still working hard” to arrest a further three suspects.

“We would say to those people the time is now to come forward and talk to us,” he said.

Det-Insp Thompson said Mr De Ieso’s family were “quite pleased we’ve got to this point”.

“We’ve got a large team and our office are very pleased as well,” he said.

“This is just the start of the process, we’ve got a lot of work to do. We would encourage the public with information to come forward and help us.”
