A man was left with broken teeth after he was attacked with a hammer during a trio’s violent robbery, which was “driven by greed”.
Thomas William Schultz, 22, was drunk and high when he forcefully kicked the female owner during the terrifying incident.
The District Court on Friday heard Schultz and his co-accused, Hendrix James Martin, 32, Brenton Paul Crombie, 23, and Isabell Grant, 19, attended the Yummy Box restaurant at Park Holme last October.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the group getting out of a Toyota Landcruiser, with one of the men attempting to drag another man from a nearby Mercedes.
The court heard Schultz chased one of the owners back into the restaurant and repeatedly attempted to punch him.
The court heard Crombie attacked one of the victims with a hammer, causing him to stagger backwards while blood was pooling on the ground.
A wallet, car keys and mobile phone were also stolen by the men during the robbery, with Schultz later using a victim’s credit card to buy cigarettes.
A prosecutor told the court Schultz was one of the main offenders in the violent robbery, which was “driven by greed”.
“For no apparent reason and unprovoked, Mr Schultz kicks her (the female owner) … it’s plainly a very forceful kick,” the prosecutor said.
Victim impact statements were read to the court.
One of the restaurant owners, who was punched in his face during the robbery, said he has been left scared for his safety and now never lets his guard down.
His wife and co-owner said she has suffered from many sleepless nights.
The victim who was struck with the hammer said he has been distraught since the attack, which left him requiring dentures after his front two teeth were broken.
Schultz, of Port Augusta, pleaded guilty to theft using force, serious criminal trespass and two counts of assault.
Martin, of Christies Downs, and Crombie, 23, of Coober Pedy, pleaded guilty last month to theft using force and two counts of assault.
Martin also pleaded guilty to serious criminal trespass.
The prosecutor said Schultz was no “shrinking violet” when it came to crime and had a significant history of violence and theft.
Raffaele Piccolo, for Schultz, told the court his client was in Adelaide for some medical results and upon receiving bad news he became angry.
He started drinking and taking Valium and met up with his cousins, who are “bad influences” on him.
Mr Piccolo said Schultz, who regretted and was remorseful for the offending, had ambitions to become a mechanic.
Judge Michael Burnett will sentence Schultz in January.
In a separate hearing on Friday, Grant, of Keswick, was sentenced for her minimal role in the offending after pleading guilty to being unlawfully on the restaurant’s premises.
The court heard Grant was not aware of what her co-accused planned to do and urged them to stop the attack once she was inside.
Magistrate Melanie Burton sentenced Grant to a 12-month, $500 good behaviour bond, with supervision.
No conviction was recorded.
