Four men are accused of a western suburbs gift shop robbery, where the employees were threatened with a machete, a court has heard.

Albert James Miller, 22, was granted home detention bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, accused of stealing over $30,000 from the store.

His co-accused Nathan John Kartinyeri, 25, is accused of wielding a large machete at staff during the robbery while Remi Davis Anderson, 20, and Ethan David Keipert, 23, are alleged to have been the getaway drivers.

A prosecutor opposed bail, due to the seriousness of the allegations and Mr Miller’s risk of reoffending.

The court previously heard the four men drove to a Woodville Gardens gift shop on May 20 in a car which had false plates.

Mr Miller and Kartinyeri exited the car wearing all black and face coverings.

“Mr Kartinyeri was wielding a large machete at the employees in the gift shop telling them not to move,” the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor said Mr Miller can be seen on CCTV climbing over the counter and taking over $30,000 in cash from the draws behind the till.

The four men then drove off and went back to Mr Keipert’s house.

Mr Anderson, of Croydon Park, Mr Keipert, of Devon Park, Mr Miller, of Croydon, and Mr Kartinyeri, of Mansfield Park, are charged with aggravated robbery. They are yet to enter any pleas.

Nick Vadasz, for Mr Miller, told the court there was no DNA or fingerprint evidence linking Mr Miller to the robbery.

“The stills (from the CCTV footage) are extremely poor quality and have very little evidentiary value,” he said.

Mr Vadasz said the prosecution’s case relied on the credibility of Mr Miller’s accomplice (Mr Keipert) who according to his lawyer had absconded.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, Magistrate Michelle Sutcliffe granted Mr Miller home detention bail and adjourned the group’s charges until November.
